James Dyson’s Water Flow Illusion

This fountain, which appeared at the Royal Horticultural Society’s recent Chelsea Flower Show, was designed by noted British vacuum sexifier James Dyson. Inspired by Escher’s “Waterfall,” Dyson’s “Wrong Garden” incorporates a clever design to create the illusion that water flows up each of the four ramps before cascading over the end. A detail of how it really works is below. Massive props to Flickr user zeddy1200, whose photograph, shown above, seems to be the only decent hi-res image of the fountain online.

Warhol X Jacko

A 1984 portrait by Andy Warhol of the late singer Michael Jackson will go on display at London’s O2 arena before being sold at auction in New York.
The artwork was commissioned by TIME Magazine to celebrate the record sales of Jackson’s album Thriller
Since the death of Jackson and since Warhol passed long ago, the portrait is causing fans and art investors to drool over the possibility of owning this piece of art.

Big Chill Retro Appliances

They may look like they were stripped out of Betty Draper’s kitchen, but Retro Kitchen’s line of fridges, stoves, and dishwashers offer modern-day technology inside their vintage casings. With EnergyStar ratings, optional Ice Maker packages, and a wide assortment of colors, the line brings us one step closer to the time of Elvis and the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Dyson (yes the vacuum company) Energy Bracelet
Simply put, you wear it and move and it can charge stuff for you when you need.

Dyson Energy Bracelet is a gadget that uses Seebeck effect to harness energy and power your mobile phones for a few precious minutes more, when you desperately need it. Lemme explain a bit: The thermoelectric effect is the direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage and vice versa. This typically includes three separately identified effects, the Seebeck effect, the Peltier effect, and the Thomson effect. This is coz three different guys discovered it around the same time, however Peltier–Seebeck and Thomson effects are reversible and Joule heating is not.

Dope LED Pendant Lamp by Christian Harrup

Light 4 is an exploratory exercise in trying to understand the iconic nature of objects through their form. Christian Harrup wanted the design to be unique, functional, and memorable. The main structure of this pendant lamp is made of injection moulded polycarbonate and uses high resolution LED’s or linear fluorescents concealed behind a polycarbonate lens. Simple and totally feasible. The shape lends well to a fashion studio thanks to the inherent “hanger” form. Continue

Interactive Pod Bed
I had to include this – its the future. You cannot risk being uniformed about the future. And yes any future with this bed in your daily use is awesome.

Curtains, TV screen, lighting, and it can remember you!

Imagine a network of interactive multimedia beds—located in hotels and airport lounges around the world—that would automatically know your favorite music, your travel schedule and your television preferences.
Creating that network is the ambitious goal of Yoo-Pod Ltd. and their Somnus-Neu project, named after the ancient Roman god of sleep but billed as “the future of beds.” And with all of these beds’ high tech features it is easy to see why.

Love that Greenery!

5.5 Designers created this awesome furniture. Yes it grows, just keep those hedges trimmed up and you’re set.

This lounger by Fung + Blatt architects has a built-in watering system and is ready for summer lamping.

Why not go giant with the grass furniture (bb_matt)!

Guerrilla Gardening by Canadian street artist Posterchild. A friend got me an awesome book on this interesting form of street art. Posterchild usually vandalized flyer boxes like this one, but here he decided to show that “forgotten pieces of urban furniture may be used to beautify the streets.”
